Chapter 1: "Of Gods and Glory" Before the time of man, before the dawn of creation, before the existence of the gods; there was only the ebb and flow of time and space. In themselves coincided the balance of life, death, and regeneration. Existing yet not, time and space were everything and nothing. One could say this was a time of chaos and peace. The calm before the storm. It was then that it happened. During an unknown time of peace, the tides changed. Waves of space and time collided and formed great rifts. Slowly, out of these rifts of space climbed extravagant beings of supreme beauty and might, endless in their numbers. Each different from the next, they soon became aware of one another. Turning upon one other; a great war, the first war, began. Racing quickly towards each other and wrestling, the gods roared with power. At first it seemed they were all evenly matched, but as they struggled to over come one another, the ebb and flow became increasingly wrathful. The great rifts began to shift and swallow up the gods again, causing more hatred and fear. It was then that one god shown out. Shining in ethereal light, he stood up amongst his enemies. Raising his hands he pleaded with the gods to stop, least they destroy themselves in the rifts. Stopping, the gods gazed at the new up riser. Continuing his cry for peace, the rest of the gods dared him to the justification of his claims. Waving his hands, he pointed to the ebb and flow; their violent waves calm once more. It was then the gods asked who he was, this god with so much knowledge. In response he announced he was the first of the fold, Aecron, the father. Slowly cries of awe rang out in the masses and it seemed the father had won. Only then did another step out from amongst the crowd. Cloaked in a cloud of darkness, he seemed on the verge of vanishing from time and space itself. Claiming to be the rightful father, first of the ebb and flow; he stood and challenged Aecron's claims. When asked his name he answered, he was Gulfron. Quickly, another cry fell upon the masses as they pondered upon who was the true father. Both seemed steadfast in there declarations and neither showed a sign of fault. Slowly, the oblivious took place. Choosing the side of he who they believed to be the true father, the gods prepared to wage war for what would determine the fate of their existence. Racing upon each other, the two sides embraced each other in heated battle. At first the struggle was of muscle against muscle, which caused such groans and growls and sounds, which will not be heard again until the final battle. Soon, the gods began to discover their own hidden abilities. Devastating attacks of pure energy and aggression washed over the void. Each took to his own element and it seemed that each god had a weakness and strength; all except Aecron and Gulfron. The two gods cut through the midst destroying everyone in their path. Upon reaching each other, Aecron and Gulfron began to clash with one another, though it seemed futile. The two gods seemed equal and each canceled one another out. Powerful attacks, seeping their energy slowly, were hurtled at one another, but each was easily countered. It seemed the battle was futile and the raging ebb and flow threatened to wipe them all out once again. Suddenly, the battle halted. Out of the depths of the gods, a scream was heard. Near the center of the masses, the gods began to back away, leaving a single goddess in the center. She was on her knees and holding her head in pain. Looking up at Aecron and Gulfron, tears fell from her face. These tears scattered everywhere and soon became the stars in the void. Crying out she begged the gods to halt their ignorant battle. Claimed to have witnessed the emergence of the first god, a murmur slowly engulfed the gods. Having heard this, Gulfron asked for her name and how was this possible for if she witnessed it then she was the first god and not either of them. Standing up slowly, she answered her name was Uthoria and she had not been blessed by the ebb and flow with powers like her fellow gods, but given something more powerful. She had the power to see into the ebb of time and see the past, present, and future. She did not realize this until the vision of the first god emerging from the rifts in the flow of space was forced into her being and induced such pain. When asked who the god was that she had seen emerge first, she answered Aecron. Gulfron, hearing that his claim was being rebuked, grew hostile and called out to the gods. Questioning them how they could be sure that Uthoria and Aecron were not acting together as one to fool them. Uthoria quickly countered that she had also witnessed Gulfron's emergence from the rifts and he was the last out. Watching Uthoria, the other gods seemed to believe her as she seemed to be of no fault and Gulfron's rage made him lose his guise as reliable. It was then that the gods finally sided with Aecron. Realizing his defeat, Gulfron bellowed and mysteriously disappeared into the darkness, which surrounded him. Flocking around Aecron and Uthoria, the gods insisted Aecron must be their leader and Uthoria his partner. Aecron willfully desired such a union as Uthoria had not only helped him prove his honesty, but she was indeed a beauty to behold. Uthoria also agreed as she felt such a union was indeed the will of the ebb and flow. And so it was that the gods found their leaders and peace amongst themselves. Each set about finding each's counterpart and all was right. However, in the back of Aecron's mind he knew they had not seen the last of Gulfron. It didn't bother him much though, seeing as he now had the faith and backing of all the gods and the wisdom of his wife, Uthoria. It seemed a paradise, but only time would tell.
